on memories

after looking right into the future

after living in the past

after finally reaching what is supposed to be the end goal (be in the present)…

i’ve concluded that the present is too fast and too short to be the end-all-be-all of life.

i look forward to the future.

i look back to peek at my past.

and now I understand why. After seeing it through someone else’s eyes..

we should not say “what’s done is done”, “the past is in the past” - it creates a vernacular fear of looking back. Closes windows to who and what we were. Hints at our true selves in construction.

It makes us forget…

it’s fundamental to, consciously and with intention, take time to remember all of the memories of freedom, happiness, joy, uncorrupted hearts and hope.

we need to do it. We must never forget that, in the present moment, we are actively creating memories, no matter how unaware we are of it.

just like those memories that seem so far away, the now will be remembered just the same in not too long…

we will forever be memory-making machines.

and the purpose ends up being about how our memories, in the end, will make us smile - of joy, of pride, of a life well lived.

we must not forget that all we do at the present moment will become a memory, on a string of memories that is our life reel - make them the best possible

in the middle of all of those bad memories that make us close our eyes in discomfort, we survive on the things we did well, the people that made us feel warm inside, the details of a summer night filled with twinkle in the skies, that coffee that was the perfect excuse to end up having a perfect day, those steps that were made in pain to arrive somewhere where pain does not exist and it’s substituted by joy…

this. is. now.
